Distribution: Widely cultivated in the warmer areas of the world.

Additional notes: The origin of C. lanatus is unclear, possibly Southern Africa, Northeastern Africa or North Africa and parts of Asia. A common weed of waste ground, sometimes covering several metres. As you can see here there are probably two, even three different sub-species the leaves and fruit are not the same. (L.Worthington)
